Russian Political Alliance Established With Gorbachev's Support
MOSCOW -- A new Russian political alliance has been established at the headquarters of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev's foundation in Moscow, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Gorbachev stated at the inaugural gathering on September 15 that the new alliance, called Civil Dialogue, will be "a nonpartisan democratic entity."
Prominent human rights defenders Lyudmila Alekseyeva and Sergei Kovalev, ex-Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov, former Duma speaker Vladimir Ryzhkov, businessman Aleksandr Lebedev, "Novaya gazeta" Editor in Chief Dmitry Muratov, and other prominent public figures took part in the movement's founding.
