Dalai Lama seeks Gorbachev''''s help in resolving Tibet issue
The Dalai Lama has sought former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev's mediation in resolving the Tibet issue within the framework of People's Republic of China.
"The Dalai Lama has approached me in my capacity as the president of the forum of Nobel prize winners, of which we both are members," Gorbachev said in a statement released by Interfax today.
"He is concerned at the situation in Tibet and has expressed hope that, I, along with other prominent politicians could contribute to switching it over to the peaceful course," the former President said.
Gorbachev, famous for his Perestroika democratic reforms which led to the end of Cold War and fall of infamous 'Iron Curtain' in Europe, underscored that the Dalai Lama has not questioned China's territorial integrity and is ready for resolving the problems through peaceful dialogue within the framework of a single state.
