Bremen celebrates Gorbachev’s 75th birthday
Bremen is celebrating the 75th birthday of former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev. His name will be put on the city’s “golden book” and a classic music concert will mark the jubilee.
Moscow celebrations of the jubilee were held several days before. Numerous friends and ex-colleagues, including German representatives, attended the event.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Russian forces’ withdrawal from Germany, Gorbachev received the title of ‘the German of the century’ and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.
Nowadays he heads the Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies, the Rome-based Foundation of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, the Turin-based World Politics Foundation, and the Petersburg Dialog Russian-German Forum.
Being an honorary doctor of more than 30 universities, Gorbachev frequently delivers lectures abroad. He is also into charity.
