INTERFAX.RU – Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has expressed deep condolences over the death of George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States.
“I offer my deep condolences to the Bush family and the entire American people on the death of the 41st President of the United States`,” Mr Gorbachev told the Interfax news agency.
“Many of my memories are linked to him. We happened to work together in years of great changes. It was a dramatic time demanding huge responsibility from everyone. The result was the end of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race,” Mr Gorbachev added.
“I pay tribute to George Bush’s contribution toward this historic achievement. He was a genuine partner.”
“Raisa and I highly valued the sensitivity, friendliness, and heartiness that were so typical of George and Barbara Bush and their entire big, close-knit family,” said Mr Gorbachev.
Mr Gorbachev expressed confidence that “the memory of George H. W. Bush as the politician and personality will live long in the hearts of many people.”
As reported earlier, former US President George H. W. Bush died on Friday in Houston, Texas, at the age of 94.
