You are one of the most profound scholars of the political and ideological processes of the twenty-first century. You were among the first to appreciate the scale and nature of the changes brought to our country by perestroika, and you were able to convey your understanding of those events to the readers and, equally important, to policy-makers. I know that your book the Gorbachev Factor is still an essential text for scholars and experts. So on this day let me wish you good health, well-being and success in continuing your scholarly work. The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind.
