Ulrich Beck: “Living in and Coping with World Risk Society: The Cosmopolitan Turn”The seminar took place on June 20, 2012, as part of the joint programmeMeeting the Challenges of Cultural Diversity in a Global World between the International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies (The Gorbachev Foundation) and the Woodrow Wilson International Center For Scholars Kennan Institute. The seminar was opened with a presentation by Ulrich Beck, Professor at Munich University and the London School of Economics, themed “Living in and Coping with World Risk Society: The Cosmopolitan Turn”
Speakers in the discussion that followed included Fedor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Foreign Affairs; Vladimir Malakhov, Director of the Center for Citizenship and Identity Studies; Vadim Mezhuyev, Chief Researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Philosophy; Emil Pain, Senior Academic Advisor at the Moscow Office of the Kennan Institute; and others.
The seminar was hosted by Olga Zdravomyslova, Executive Director of the Gorbachev Foundation.
The seminar was held with participation and support from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
