Round Table Discussion “Is the Cold War Over?” / Meeting with David Hoffman at the Gorbachev FoundationOn 21 September 2011, the Gorbachev Foundation hosted Round Table Discussion “Is the Cold War Over?” / Meeting with David Hoffman, Foreign Editor at The Washington Post, a Cold War researcher, and winner of numerous journalistic awards. His latest book is The Dead Hand: The Untold Story of the Cold War Arms Race and its Dangerous Legacy (Doubleday, 2009), which won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for general non-fiction. Those taking part in the discussion themed “Is the Cold War Over?” included Mikhail Gorbachev, David Hoffman, and Russian political scientists and researchers Aleksandr Galkin, Viktor Kuvaldin, Georgy Ostroumov, Pavel Palazhchenko, Andrey Ryabov, Boris Slavin, and Mikhail Troitsky. The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.
