The Gorbachev Foundation launches the “Raissa” Exhibit, devoted to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Raissa Gorbachev
The Gorbachev Foundation presents the Exhibit “Raissa”. It is devoted to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Raissa Gorbachev (1932-1999). Items on the display include authentic documents and photographs from collections of the Gorbachev family and the Gorbachev Foundation, as well as documents from federal archives.
The Exhibit consists of five sections, which present the life of Raissa Gorbachev. The first display stand shows photographs of the ordinary Soviet family of Gorbachevs in the 1950s – 1970s and on the last stand one can see pictures of the USSR President's family after Mikhail Gorbachev voluntarily stepped down as head of the state. A separate section of the Exhibit represents the life of Raissa Gorbachev, the First Lady, and her participation in numerous official events and visits Mikhail Gorbachev made across the Soviet Union and abroad. The Exhibit also displays photographs and documents which give insights into the charity activities of Raissa Gorbachev: establishment of the Soviet Culture Fund and launching of the Hematologists of the World for Children International Association.
