Gorbachev Against TB and AIDS ProgramAnother important stage has been completed in the implementation of the long-term Gorbachev Against TB and AIDS Program: a section for detainees with TB and AIDS was officially opened in the Moscow Regional Pre-trial Detention Center in Yegorievsk. This project was conducted on the basis of a memorandum between the Gorbachev Foundation and the Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for Russia’s penitentiary system. The section underwent complete overhauling: hot water system was installed; medical post was added, with a shower cabin; and new beds were also provided. The section was equipped with a consulting room, a treatment room, a medical unit for the staff, and new medical furniture. The works were carried out in accordance with the relevant international standards and regulations of Russia’s Justice Ministry. The opening ceremony was attended by Boris Ionov, the Gorbachev Foundation’s Executive Director and senior officials from the Ministry of Justice. |
The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.
