M.S. Gorbachev. Collected Works
The publication includes both official statements by M.S. Gorbachev (his reports at the Congresses of the CPSU and the CPSU Central Committee Plenary Sessions, the Sessions of the USSR Supreme Soviet and the Congresses of the USSR People’s Deputies, etc.) and his speeches during his numerous trips in the USSR and visits abroad. For the first time the publication carries Gorbachev’s speeches at the sessions of the Politburo and the Central Committee Secretariat as well as at the conferences of the staff of the CPSU CC apparatus and other confidential meetings as based on the transcripts taken by his aides. Collected Works also contain excerpts from Gorbachev’s discussions with prominent foreign government and public figures. More than 60 per cent of the texts included in the Collected Works are the texts that have not been published before.
The preparation of each volume goes in the following succession:
1. Survey. The study of literature that dates to the period of the relevant volume. These are collections of documents, monographs, collections of articles, memoirs, press materials both in Russian and in foreign languages as well as documents from the Presidential Archive.
2. Editing. Selection of texts by M.S. Gorbachev from shorthand records and work notes of the Plenary Sessions of the CPSU Central Committee, Politburo sessions, discussions, interviews, etc. 3. Authorship work. Writing commentaries to facts and events mentioned by M.S. Gorbachev; M.S. Gorbachev’s life events; names index. The drawing up of documentary attachments to specific volumes. The issue of Collected Works began in 2008 in the Publishing House Ves Mir The Presentation of the Collected Works took place at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2008 and at the Book Fair Non/Fiction in Moscow in November 2008.

Collected Works by M.S. Gorbachev are a source of most complete and often unique information about the time when M.S. Gorbachev was one of the USSR leaders and, particularly, about the years when he was the leader of the Communist Party and of the Soviet Union.
