Conference "Glasnost and reforms in Russia: evaluations, myths, facts"
On September 29, 2010 the Gorbachev Foundation hosted a conference entitled Glasnost and Reforms in Russia: Evaluations, Myths, Facts. The conference was opened by Mikhail Gorbachev. Participants at the first session "Perestroika and Glasnost in the History of Russian Reforms" included Viktor Sheinis, Prof. of Economics, Institute of the World Economics and International Relations ("Glasnost and Perestroika of the Future") and Andrei Levandovsky, Prof. of History, Moscow State University ("The Beginning of Great Reforms: a Trigger Mechanism"). Other speakers included Mikhail Ilchenko, fellow of Philosophy and Law Institute of the Urals Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Yekaterinburg); Alexei Levinson, the Levada Center; Vadim Medvedev, the Gorbachev Foundation.
The second session "Glasnost in Today's Russia" was opened by Yelena Bashkirova, head of the Bashkirova & Partners polling agency. Other participants included Maria Lipman, editor-in-chief of Pro et Contra journal (the Carnegie Endowment); Nikolai Pogodaev, journalist (Tomsk), Yury Chernyshov director of the Altai School of Political Research (Barnauk); Andrei Zubov, Prof. of History, Moscow State Institute for International Relations at the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation.
