Dialogues about Democracy. Series of Seminars for young peopleDerived from the Greek word “demos”, translated as “people”, “Democracy” is a very familiar term, generally meaning government in which the supreme power is exercised by people. However, it should be admitted that this concept is often misused, misunderstood and given a variety of ambiguous interpretations. With the spread of the democratic values and principles, many countries have developed their own vision of democracy and established their own way to create an ideal democratic state. On the one hand it can be stated that some countries made a breakthrough to democracy, on the other hand it should not be forgotten that not all the attempts to turn an idea into reality resulted in success and victory of democratic values in the concrete society.
During the first seminar which took place in March, the participants discussed the general ideas and principles of democracy, their origins and developments as well as the forms of government in Germany and Russia. The second seminar aims to investigate the values of contemporary democracy. The objective of the third seminar will be examination of the democratic processes in Russia and Germany.
The target group of the seminars with participation of the experts in political science and sociology are the young people interested in political science and development of the civil society, as well as students studying the international relations and political science.
